We do not want to leave our pup home alone when we visit my wife’s parents today. We have a small pet carrier, but I worry that this will scare her in the way a jail cell may scare a prisoner. My wife contends that this is the best method because it is after all a "pet carrier" and that is what it is designed for. She also makes the point that this method will free our hands up for other things- however I remain leary of this method because I worry about my pups stress level and how being in this carrier may potentially agravate or scare her.

Please tell me which is a better way to transport our puppy, by holding her in our hands, or by putting her in a pet carrier- she is 6 1/2 weeks with 1st shots.

So i got my aussie pup (10 months) a dog backpack to wear when we go hiking from gordmans the brand was "eddie buauer for pets", I read reviews of ones from petco and petsmart and they all said they were junk and fell apart so when i saw this one at dillars i grabbed it thinking it may be good… it broke after only 45 minutes!

Anyone know where i can find/buy a GOOD quality dog backpack that can stand a good hike and romp?

Please only those who use/have one. I dont want any guesses about what "might" be good or "looks" good. I want ones that are PROVEN good by someone who has used it.

THANKS! 10 points!
oh and id pre fer one that stays ballened, i have to readjust it ever once in a while because it started slipping to one side… grrr annoying!

This is a quick video showing you what you will need if you fly a puppy above board on an air plane. This is a different method of transport, because the pup remains with you at all times. When you ship a pup cargo, they will fly underneath the plane in the climate controlled cargo area with the other dogs. You will need to check your airline and ask about their size requirements for a above board carrier. I use the one displayed in the video and I have never had any airline reject the size. When flying above board, you must first book your flight. Then you need to call the airline PET hot line to reserve your dog a “position” on the plane. Some airlines only allow 5 dogs above board on any given flight. You can pay for your flight in advance, but they will not let you pay for the pet’s flight until the day you fly it. But you MUST reserve the spot in advance. Once you get to the air port, you check in and pay for your pet’s flight at that time. On Southwest it is currently .00 for the pet, plus the cost of your flight. But prices always change and each airline is different. I always send a bag of little kibbles to feed your pup through the openings just in case they get a little restless. Once you board the plane, the pup MUST be kept in the carrier at all times. No exceptions. When your dog gets older and if you want to fly with them above board, you can only do it if they are a registered Service Dog. And you will have to book them a seat from what I hear.
