Question by KAR36: Where is the best place to buy an airline-approved carrier for my 8 month old puppy to fit under the seat?
I decided to take my 8 month old dog on an overseas flight in the cabin of the plane under the seat in front of me. Does anyone know the best place I can find an exactly 17 inch by 10 inch by 10 inch airline approved carrier? Amazon.com has a bunch but none exactly meet these dimensions so far. My dog is actually longer than 17 inches so I don’t know if I can get one an inch or two longer or if that will keep him off the plane.

Question by ChickPea: What is the best dog carrier for airline travel?
I have a 13 pound miniature dachshund and will be moving to New York in the spring and bringing her along. I want to be able to bring her into the cabin of the airplane with me and have seen other dog owners put their dogs in small, soft sided, well ventilated bags that fit underneath the seat in front of them. Who has experience with these types of carriers and which brand do you recommend? I would prefer one with a shoulder strap. Thanks!
I’m looking for a brand here. Anyone who has one of these soft sided carriers that fits under the airplane seat who can give me a good recommendation as far as brand.

Question by Kelly Major: Where does my dog have to be in his carrier in the airport?
I am flying with my new puppy for the first time tomorrow and I have never flown with a dog before. He is flying in the cabin with us and we already made his reservation and went to the vet. Like most young puppies he does not like to stay in his carrier unless he is sleeping, I know you have to keep him in there on the flight its self but what about in the airport? Do I have to keep him in there from the minute we walk into the door to check in to when we walk out the door at our final destination?

Only your airline could tell you for sure, but since most people love to see puppies, it wouldn’t surprise me if you can get away with having him out of the carrier in the waiting are as long as he’s on a leash.
You’re biggest problem is that no one is looking for a puppy in the airport. People in airports are very distracted. He could easily get stepped on! I wouldn’t take him out of the carrier unless you can find a gate area that is fairly calm.
