Traveling with my dog on airline?

Question by Rachel: Traveling with my dog on airline?
We have a Lasah apso, we already got her a sherpa carrier that says it is approved for out airline and she fits in it comforatbly, is there any thing else we should do to make her more comfortable? – we are going on 2 flights right after eachother so she will be in the bag for about 6 hours – should we make time to take her out to go to the bathroom after the first flight or not?
Is there anything i should or shouldnt do before we get on the plane?

Question by Paranormal Kitty: Can you buy an extra seat on an airplane for your pet (inside a carrier of course)?
I refuse to put my cat in the cargo area. Are there any airlines that let you buy an extra seat for your pet?
Oh, and it’s in the US – Tulsa to Los Angeles.
I know it’s not too far to drive but the company is going to give me free plane tickets if they hire me.

depends on the airline. My puppy came on an airplane, but was shipped on a special cargo type of comparment (this was when she was sent from the breeder).

I looked into taking my cat somewhere and southwest and jetblue wouldn’t do it so I had to drive. My roommate took her cat with her tho and I know there are some places that do it. If security has tightened since the christmas attempt I wouldn’t definitely call rather than just trusting answers on here.

Recommended airline dachshund carrier?

Question by Anna M: Recommended airline dachshund carrier?
We’re going to fly (on Jetblue) with our dachshund puppy for the first time in about three weeks and I was wondering if anyone had good recommendations for a dachshund-specific soft sided carrier. She was about 9 lbs at 15 weeks and will be about 19 weeks when we fly, so maybe about 11-12 pounds then, but it would be great if we could buy somthing she could “grow into”. Any recommendations for specific carriers or websites to purchase them on?

I got a Samonite from a local pet store. Go to JetBlue’s website and see if they have any specific regulations. Otherwise most pet stores carry a few crates that are marked as airline approved.

Do do a search for pet travel. There are several out there.
Some tips, get there early. You dog will have to come out of the crate for security. Take potty breaks before you got in and after you land. You may want to give the dog a chew toy for take off, so help pop thier ears. The dog will have to go under the seat for take off and land, but if I have a space beside me I take my crate and put it beside me. One thing, my dog was very scared during the flight. Actually growled at a flight attendent, something he has NEVER done before. So just a warning.

Good luck and happy trails. :)
