Question by : Do you know of good quality/durable dog beds at a reasonable price? (sized small- 25lb…?
…and under)
My 3yr old dog, Jack, has never chewed a bed or decided it was a toy. Then came the rat terrier, Eddie. We have beds in most every room, which were previously safe. Eddie has chewed a hole in an expensive bed we had for a year before him. There is also a cheap bed with a removable pillow, which he constantly totes around (it is cute though, the pillow is bigger than he is). Then there is the super cheap/light bed that Eddie came with, which he constantly drags around.
So. We need beds that are durable enough for some occasional chewing and heavy enough they can’t be carried around easily. The beds also can’t be too large because Jack seems to like the tight fitting beds much more than the roomy ones. We recently bought a West Paw bumper bed, which is perfect. However, we need 4-6 beds total, and at $ 70 a pop that is going to add up fast.
Eddie has taught us the real value of buying quality pet products! At least if we are stuck buying the $ 70 beds, they should last a long time.

My rigid plastic dog beds are forty five years old; they are still intact and hygienic. I have never bought posh dog beds because it is almost impossible to put them into the washing machine.
I use plastic beds which are cheap and easy to clean. Nevertheless my dog beds are very comfortable and they look very posh, when they are dressed up to provide comfort for my dogs.
I cut foam for the base; I then drape a duvet over this to hang over the sides. This conceals the fact that they are cheap plastic beds. I buy cheap pretty duvet covers to blend in with my colour scheme. I then put “Vet Beds” on top on the duvet. The contents of the bed can be put into my washing machine and I clean the plastic beds with vinegar every week.
Obviously a new puppy would chew a duvet and the foam base; consequently for a puppy, I just use a “Vet Bed” in my basic and hygienic plastic bed. I will admit that although my old plastic beds are reasonably sound, there is evidence that all of my puppies have had a nibble at the edges.

http://www.DrsFosterSmith but they’re expensive. Just remember you get what you pay for.
I made new beds this year for my boys. It’s a little less expensive than buying a quality bed.
Cut the foam out of a baby bed mattress for our older dog who needs the extra support and used foam mattress cover and stuffing for the other dogs bed cos he likes to sink in the fluffy.Neither cost me more than $ 35.00 to make and they should hold up nicely.I used comforters I bought at garage sales to cover them both. One of mine weighs 115# and the other weighs 85# so know what you mean about things not holding up.
Toys from Foster and smith seem to last awhile longer than what you get at the store and if cost is an issue then check out JeffersPet.com some of their stuff is junk so be careful but they have some good quality toys for a better price than Foster & Smith.
